Abstract:
In this second lecture, I will specialize to the case of a self-gravitating spherically symmetric neutral scalar field and describe recent work which completely resolves the extremal event horizon threshold conjecture in this setting. This will involve a discussion of the wave equation on extremal Reissner—Nordström, including the celebrated Aretakis instability of the event horizon.
